Urine Fertilizer at Yellowbud Farm

At Yellowbud Farm, farmer Eric Cornell explains that he sees fertilizing with urine as one part of the “symbiosis and the co-evolution of humans and plants.” Through fertilizing with urine, humans can provide an incredibly plant-available form of nitrogen. Then the trees, once matured, can in turn provide humans with tasty nuts perennially.
Rich Earth is partnering with Yellowbud as part of a USDA SARE research project exploring urine fertilizer for new crops and different application methods. Watch this short video about our fertilization of Yellowbud’s tree nursery field. In a separate trial with Yellowbud Farm, we are also assessing the effect of urine fertilization (at high and low rates) on hickory nursery stock in air-pruned beds.
