Peecycling in the Valley: Community Conversations for Franklin County, MA

Posted by Julia Cavicchi on August 5, 2023

Yellowbud Farm applies urine fertilizer provided by the Rich Earth Institute to its tree nursery field in Northfield.
After over a decade of recycling urine in Windham County, VT, Rich Earth is increasingly supporting other communities in seeding programs of their own. With a network of downstream partners in Massachusetts, we are currently working to galvanize the expansion of peecycling infrastructure to Franklin County, MA.
By expanding urine reclamation in our watershed, we can continue to reduce the nutrients that the Connecticut River carries to the coast, contributing to nutrient pollution in the Long Island Sound. We are hosting two community conversations about this work on Thurs, Aug 3 at 11am or Thurs, Aug 10 at 7pm.
Rich Earth will briefly present about our peecycling program (why & how it works) and then facilitate brainstorming and discussion about implementation in Franklin County. Join us to reimagine our “waste” as a resource and map out a future for a circular nutrient economy in the valley!
