FAQ: Do nutrients from urine fertilizer still runoff into the watershed? How is that better than the current paradigm?
In the conventional paradigm, nutrient pollution can come from both wastewater treatment systems and farms.
In a circular paradigm, when we replace imported fertilizer nutrients with locally available urine fertilizer nutrients, we can greatly reduce the nutrients entering the watershed–even if urine fertilizer is applied in largely the same way that conventional fertilizers are applied. However, at Rich Earth, we place a strong emphasis on preventing nutrient loss during agricultural application. By working with farmers to tailor the urine fertilizer application to the specific nutrients needed by the crops during their growing stage, this helps to minimize agricultural nutrient pollution as well.
