Community Connection at the Rich Earth Jubilee
On July 1, we hosted a community gathering to celebrate local food and the cycles that sustain our lives. At the Jubilee, we connected the many folks in our community working to create a more just, resilient food system – including the place of urine reclamation as a cornerstone of a thriving food cycle. From food growers to distributors to composters and peecyclers, together we can enrich the earth! Watch a video of presentations at the Jubilee here:
Some highlights from the day:
- The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center hosted a print-making station featuring harvests from local farms, including SUSU commUNITY Farm, Wild Carrot Farm, and West River Seeds.
- Rich Earth’s Research Director Abe Noe-Hays provided updates on ongoing research projects and Rich Earth co-founder Brightwater Tools CEO Kim Nace reported on peecycling efforts in Europe.
- Arthur Davis announced the ‘Piss-Off Awards’ for the most prolific urine donors.
- Jay Bailey of Fairwinds Farm (Rich Earth’s longest farm partner and urine fertilizer recipient) took the stage to share songs of farming with draft horses.
- Other stations were hosted by: Foodworks Cooperative, Edible Brattleboro, VT Food Bank’s Gleaning program, Ben’s Bins Vermicomposting, Food Connects, Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District, Windham Solid Waste Management District, BF Community Bike Project, Dosa Kitchen, True North Granola, and Superfresh! Organic Cafe.
