Brightwater Tools Update
Rich Earth’s spin-off Brightwater Tools is pleased to have received a planning grant from the University of Vermont’s (UVM’s) Leahy Institute for Rural Partnership. Working with UVM professors Eric Roy and Matt Scarborough, they will package our multi residential treatment technology for planners, architects, regulators and contractors for consideration as a new, on-site (distributed) means of managing wastewater. Along with the many organizations and individuals, they are working to solve the sanitation challenges associated with building additional affordable housing in Vermont.
Brightwater Tools has deployed 4 Freeze Concentrator units this year and continues to test and validate its performance. All the results have been stellar! In addition, Brightwater Tools deployed a Mobile Unit and tested the entire treatment train which includes their Freeze Concentrator, Pasteurizer, and Carbon Filter. The Mobile Unit was deployed to Massachusetts Alternative Septic Testing Center (MASSTC) where they made 100 gallons of concentrated fertilizer. MASSTC intends to use Brightwater Tools’ technology to process urine from a funded pilot on Cape Cod of 25 households where they are testing urine diverting toilets.
