Brightwater Tools Spin-Off Seeks Software Developer
Position Title: Software Developer
Term: 10-12 hours/week, Part-Time
Summary: A spin-off of the Rich Earth Institute, BrightWater Tools is developing novel, building-scale wastewater nutrient recovery systems. The focus of this position is to assist the BrightWater Tools research and development (R&D) team with software development in order to find and implement new wastewater treatment and nutrient reclamation technologies. The position will also facilitate the transition of projects from the R&D team to new product development and manufacturing, including periodic software updates and customer support for manufactured products.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Communicate regularly and clearly with the Brightwater Tools team regarding project schedules, technical issues, resources and costs.
- Stay current on new and emerging technologies related to our field.
- Engage in development of new products, projects and designs.
- Support all R&D and product development activities with the proper documentation.
- Facilitate the transition of projects from R&D to manufacturing.
- Support the Research Center with equipment upgrades, maintenance and new test setups.
- Adhere to current company and department policies and procedures.
- Ensure safe work practices and adherence to the Brightwater Tools Employee Handbook.
- Other duties as assigned by the CTO.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of related experience in programming and physical computing.
- Knowledge of microcontrollers, IoT.
- Knowledge of Arduino, Linux, Raspberry Pi.
- Knowledge in programming embedded systems in C/C++.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues that are technical in nature, including hardware, software, and networking.
- Ability to prepare operating manuals, documentation, and reports.
- Willingness to learn new skills to meet changing needs.
- Interest in learning and experimenting with novel technologies.
- PC-based computing experience (Google suite, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
- Good oral and written communication skills and superior organizational abilities.
- Ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a collaborative environment.
- Personal and professional integrity.
- Ability to be resourceful and self-motivated.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with the design and bread boarding of electronic circuits for prototypes.
- Experience with automation systems or robotics.
- Understanding of chemistry, fluid dynamics, materials or physics is helpful.
- Experience with 3D modeling is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and manipulate tools. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
